报告题目(英文):Heat treatment effects in metamagnetic Ni-Mn based shape memory alloys

报告内容简介:Metamagnetic shape memory alloys are an interesting class of materials capable of undergoing a reverse martensitic transformation imposed by a magnetic field. As such they may be intersting as a new class of shape memory alloys for actuation application as well as for new generation magnetic cooling, since upon the transformation they simultanously show a considerable adiabatic temperature change. The transformation may take place between the ferromagnetic/magnetic austenite and weak magnetic martensite. The magnetic ordering can be well controlled either by composition or thermal treatments, which modify the magnetic exchange inteaction and may thus effectively alter the magnetic contribution to the transformation entropy change with consequences for the functional performance. In this talk a basic properties of metamagnetic shape memory alloys based on Ni-Mn-Sn are briefly reviewd with focus on thermal treatment effects for optimising their performance.

报告人简介(英文):Pawel Czaja is an associate professor with the Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Krakow. He is assoscietd with the Department of Construction and Functional Materials. His reserach concern development of functional smart materials inclduing magnetic shape memory alloys and intermetallics for catalytic applications.
